question 1 - conventions used in trailer video

The effect of these conventions

Teen comedies use characters of around teen age so that the target audience can relate to the characters as they will be of similar age. Teen comedies are often set in high school/colleges as most teenagers will be attending one and so again the target audience will be able to relate to the film which is important as people are generally more interested in things that relate to themselves. Another conventional issue often in teen comedies is alcohol at house parties, the reason house parties are used as a setting is that characters are often under-age to drink in bars, which is again something that teenagers can relate to. They also often cover the topic of relationships and more commonly relationships between people in different social cliques and contrast the social cliques in school communities, this is done as it means that a wider range of people will be able to relate to the film. teen comedies use Mise-en-scene to distinguish between social cliques ( jocks wear sport clothing and Goths wear black), they also often use clothing humorously on 'uncool' characters to show that they do not fit in.

By using these conventions in Graduation our film will have a better chance of being successful as other successful films from this genre have used them and so by using them our film should appeal to a similar audience who enjoy these conventions. By following conventions there is a better chance of appealing to the target audience than an unconventional product and by appealing to a large demographic the film is likely to make more money.
